“View from Mount Wallich” lays out the most extensive panoramic view of Singapore from the mid-19th century, stretching from Pearl’s Hill to Tanjong Rhu. The brush strokes of the background closely resemble the patterns of Batik, which made it even more enchanting to look at. Khairulddin’s works are primarily inspired by archival materials revolve around the notion of anthropology, environmental history, and post-colonialism in Singapore. He also gained access to the collections at the National Library when he was invited to join their one-year residency program in 2021.
