Symbiora is an interactive art installation that responds to ecological issues through a sustainable circular system. The work transforms rice-washing wastewater into microbial cellulose sheets, CO₂, and liquid fertiliser using microorganisms. All components are connected visually, sonically, and through real-time interactivity in an open system.
This concept is rooted in Donna Haraway’s principle of sympoiesis, meaning “making with”, the concept emphasises cross-species collaboration, defining life as a collaborative outcome rather than individual creation. Visually, the structure draws inspiration from the Pasren, a contemplative space in traditional Javanese architecture associated with offerings to Dewi Sri, the goddess of fertility and ecological balance.
By blending local cultural values with posthuman philosophy, Symbiora functions as a contemplative and educational space that invites reflection on cohabitation and ecological sustainability.
