Great Wave is inspired by Hokusai’s famous work, Great Wave Of Kanagawa. When I created this work, I was contemplating the ocean as a shared connection, rather than something that separates us....
Great Wave is inspired by Hokusai’s famous work, Great Wave Of Kanagawa. When I created this work, I was contemplating the ocean as a shared connection, rather than something that separates us. Particularly at the time when COVID border closures separated me from my family in Japan, I dreamed that I could dance across the waves, and the idea that the water could travel between continents was a source of comfort.
