This work makes formal reference to the ‘ong lai’ (pineapple) lanterns, often hung during Chinese New Year for prosperity and wealth within domestic, business or working spaces. The painting depicts one of such lanterns which the artist found in Pekan Nenas – its plastic brittled and bleached, in the harsh rays of the tropical sun.
