Healing Poem is a new series of sculptural works by Hiromi Tango, premiering as part of Asia NOW 2025. Reflecting on her experiences as a migrant living in Australia, these works explore themes of hope, resilience and growth. Having now lived more than half her life in Australia, Tango reflects on how we are shaped by our environment, and what remains deeply rooted in our psyche.
This exploration of nature/nurture has been a consistent theme throughout her practice over the last two decades, which she has explored through various lenses including the science of epigenetics, neural plasticity, and the many ways that nature provides healing.
Traditional kimono and obi (fabric sash worn with kimono) textiles will been woven into a sculptural installation. Characters expressing words such as humanity, heart, grow, nature, can be found amongst the organic shapes that unfold across the walls. An accompanying poem for each of these words builds on these themes.
