Asia NOW Paris Asian Art Fair 2025: Hiromi Tango
Upcoming exhibition
新闻稿
Cuturi Gallery returns to the 11th edition of Asia Now Paris Asian Art Fair and is proud to bring forth the works of Hiromi Tango (b.1976, Japan/Australia), Tango’s debut solo presentation at the fair. Known for her deeply emotive practice, Tango draws on cultural heritage and personal histories to create works that speak to healing, transformation, and continuity.
In recent years, Tango has reconnected with the cultural influences that have shaped her life and practice, from traditional Japanese textiles to formative time spent with her grandmother in her garden, alongside formal training in calligraphy, archery, Noh theatre, and poetry. As a Japanese migrant living in Australia for more than half her life, these reflections form fertile ground for her inquiry into how beauty and harmony can emerge even in uncertain times.
Central to her work is the Japanese concept of 間 (ma), signifying pause, interval, or empty space, the vital time and space that allows life to grow. This philosophy underpins Tango’s approach, where the restraint of form becomes a framework for transformation and meaning.
At Asia Now, Tango presents Healing Code, comprising a thread of interrelated, series of works. Healing Poem | Aika 愛歌 is a group of calligraphic textile works, while Heart Bridge | AIHASHI 愛橋 features paintings and wall works infused with sculptural elements made from kimono and obi fabrics. By repurposing these materials into organic forms, Tango reflects on how both the material and immaterial may be renewed and reimagined.
Through Healing Code, Cuturi Gallery highlights Tango’s ongoing exploration of memory, heritage, and the universal need for healing, offering viewers a poignant meditation on resilience and transformation.
