Julian Mayor British, b. 1976
Julian Mayor is a british based artist. After graduating from the Royal College of Art in 2000 with a MA in Design Products, Mayor kicked-off his design career as a product and interior designer for IDEO design consultancy.
Mayor is known for his sculptural works in welded sheet metal. Using high-tech design processes, the artist creates each piece digitally on a computer before building them by hand in his workshop. His designs take inspiration from mathematics and nature and allude to his expertise in high-tech design and craft-based techniques. We see triangulation and geometry ever-present in his works.
His works have been exhibited in Milan, Switzerland, New York, Tokyo, and Los Angeles. Most notably, his works were shown in the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD), New York, and shown in an installation with Naoto Fukasawa at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York. He also has a permanent series of sculptural benches installed in the park behind the Tate Britain in Pimlico, London.
