Yom turns to another dimension of home with Elegy, moving out of the domestic sphere to interrogate “home” as a structure shaped by authority, memory and legacy. Here, a figure central to Singapore’s nation-building is depicted in a contemplative state, reclining on a chair. Rendered on a miniature scale, this gesture resists monumentality—opening up a space of ambiguity, where the artist suggests his humanity while questioning the larger-than-life persona that has been constructed around him. The work stands as both an acknowledgement of legacy and a quiet disruption of it.
