Pushing tides is a metaphor for the act of reclaiming and reshaping land and its landscape. Land reclamation is akin to pushing back tides from the sea in order to extend the surface of the land. At the heart of it, Pushing Tides explores and refers to humankind’s desire to intervene and reshape the environment. Textile traditions of Southeast Asia influence the undulating and surreal treatment of the landscape in this work and its colours.
