Reminiscing About Falling In-: Afiqa A'mran

Press release

Cuturi Gallery is proud to present Reminiscing About Falling In-, an end-of-residency presentation by local artist, Afiqa A’mran (b.1995, Singapore). The emerging artist has been part of the gallery's residency programme located at level two of the gallery where she worked on an entirely new selection of paintings. This presentation features A’mran’s new works that emulate the intimacy of a queer couple - with each painting reflecting the places she and her partner ventured.

Themes of love and sexuality can be seen in each painting, through a balance of texture, lines, and shapes, she achieves a fluid composition between the bodies portrayed. In her paintings, the background is often reminiscent of places she had encountered. With the experimentation of textures and lines in this series, she plays on the notion of symbolism blurring the lines between reality and fiction.

Afiqa A’mran graduated from Lasalle College of the Arts with a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts in 2022 and had her first solo show When You Were Mine at the gallery in 2021. Her works have also been exhibited in selected group shows held in both Singapore and London.

Reminiscing About Falling In- will be on view in Afiqa A'mran's studio on the upper floors of the gallery from 4 to 26 March 2023.
