This wall sculpture depicts the longhouse as both an architectural and cultural symbol central to Sarawak life. The thick carved band slicing through the calmer outer surface evokes the river as a pathway of movement, trade, and storytelling, while also reflecting the energy of communal spaces like the ruai. Its layered construction implies histories hidden beneath the surface, oral traditions, rituals, and collective memories passed down through generations. By blending restraint and intensity, the work becomes a metaphor for Borneo culture itself. quiet in appearance, yet deeply layered with meaning and lived experience.
