Press release

We are delighted to present Delphine Rama’s first solo exhibition at Cuturi Gallery: The Third Force. The work of this young Belgian artist is constantly evolving, as she experiments and pushes the boundaries of her own artistic expression. For this exhibition, Delphine explores the human psychology and the uniqueness of the individual through challenges.

The works presented in this exhibition have a humanistic feel. What she defines as The Third Force is our self-existential search for what makes us unique, and what sets us up to live within our maximum potential. Her acrylic on canvas artworks aim to bring the audience to an inner contemplation of oneself.

To Delphine, each painting in this series looks back at her own challenges. To her, these paintings summarize the tensions and endurance she had to go through. Each of her geometrical forms, and the choice of colours are a visualization of her own self.

Beyond the emotional narrative of her paintings, the work of Delphine is visually striking. The composition and the choice of colours is profoundly researched. Warmer and cooler colours are constantly battling to provide the audience with a sense of visual equilibrium. In addition, her forms are geometric, almost seeking perfection. Yet upon a closer look, one can see the irregularities of the medium. This provides a sense of materiality to her paintings.

Although one can categorize Delphine’s work as being abstract, the intention of this new series is to project our inner forces and tensions. A figuration of our own emotions.

Delphine Rama was born in Liege, Belgium in 1988. She now lives and works in Singapore. After studying architecture, she obtained a Fine Arts degree from the prestigious Académie Royale des Beaux Arts in Brussels. Her works have been exhibited internationally, and she was part of the Biennale in Mobilart.

Her geometrical forms, inspired by her love of architecture remains, but one can clearly see a shift towards a more existential exploration of the self.

The Third Force opens on November 7th and will run until November 29th.
