This week, art (and ice cream) lovers should head down to Cuturi Gallery, which is putting on its annual Summer exhibition – this year’s show features 11 emerging painters, who are showcasing new works that grapple with topics ranging from human connection to cultural narratives. And to sweeten the deal (quite literally), the gallery is even handing out free ice cream scoops to the first 150 visitors. Meanwhile, for fans of the divey Enclave Bar – be sure to check out the joint’s upcoming pop-up.

TAKE IN A GROUP SHOW FULL OF EMERGING ART STARS

Cuturi Gallery is one of the best places to find emerging painters, and their next show is a great chance to get a grasp of what they have to offer: it’s the gallery’s annual Summer Group Show, where 10 of their artists – Aisha Rosli, Casey Tan, Claudia Koh, Faris Heizer, Israfil Ridhwan, Khairulddin Wahab, Marla Bendini, Oneal Parbo, Shen Jiaqi, and Vanessa Liem – will be showcasing new works.
 
There’s also guest artist Joel Seow, who’s been invited to show in this textured group exhibition, which explores various themes of identity, emotion, human connection, and cultural narratives. Pictured here is Aisha Rosli’s When I Feel, What I Feel, which invites the view into the protagonist’s turbulent inner world that’s a far cry from her external reality.
 
And in a cheeky nod to the summer theme, the gallery will be giving out free ice cream scoops of the traditional sandwich type – the first 150 will be on the house.

CHECK OUT THE NEW BRANDS JOINING THIS MULTI-LABEL STORE

Buzzy multi-label store Spades is well-known in Singapore for carrying a well-curated range of vintage and local labels that are hard to find elsewhere and now, they’re turning two this weekend. To ring in their anniversary, the founders will be having an assortment of coffee and pastries from Bloom cafe, as well as live sets by DJ Matty Judah. They’re also taking the opportunity to showcase three contemporary labels joining the Spades roster – namely Singapore’s Studio Vetyver, Vietname’s Muddy Buffalo and Malaysia’s Doubleback.

VISIT ENCLAVE BAR'S NEW ITERATION

When Golden Mile Complex finally closed down this May, one of the many gems that disappeared with it was the beloved dive joint Enclave Bar in the basement, which was a go-to spot for many in the creative and arts scene for its inventive cocktails and laidback vibes.

 

Fans of the bar can now rejoice; they’re back with a new iteration – albeit temporarily. They’ll be the next guest star of Ghostwriter, the F&B incubator program (and an intimate 10-seater space) run by the same people behind trendy names like Underdog Inn, Sago House and Low Tide, and will be taking over the space for three weeks.

 

Owner Ritz Ang says to expect the same offbeat atmosphere and drinks from Enclave Bar’s original iteration but look out for a newly improved and expanded dinner menu – the food offerings previously were largely limited to homely dishes prepared by nearby Thai restaurants.

SHOP UP A STORM AT THE ASIAN CIVILISATIONS MUSEUM

If you’ve yet to visit the Andrew Gn retrospective at the Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM), this weekend’s a good time to do so. The museum is putting on a fashion-centric festival in conjunction with the ongoing Andrew Gn: Fashioning Singapore and the World exhibition, and one of the key highlights is a marketplace where you’ll be able to pick up wardrobe gems from a variety of stylish local personalities and industry insiders such as cultural programming impresario Tracy Phillips (pictured), fashion stylists Daryl Alexius Yeo and Martin Wong, and creative multi-hyphenate Stephanie Er. There are also various workshops where you can learn how to make a headpiece with artist Polina Korobova, make jewellery, sketch illustrations and more.

GET MOVING AT NAGA'S ANNIVERSARY PARTY

Celebrations are in order as the budding, hyper-hip NAGA empire – comprising the much-talked-about, Japanese-inspired eatery NAGA House on Lorong Telok and the music arm NAGA Sounds – turns one with a multiday line-up that lives up to its dynamic and boisterous nature.
