Yunita Rebekah Indonesian, b. 1997
Yunita Rebekah is an Indonesian artist, currently based in Singapore. She received a BFA the University of Central Lancanshire / NAFA (2019). She was the recipient of the Best Graduate Award for her Diploma in Fine Art at NAFA (2018), and also received the Tan Chay Bing Scholarship for 2016 and 2017. She has participated in group shows in Sangkring Art Project, Jogjakarta, Your Mother Gallery, Singapore, National Gallery Singapore, and Ngee Ann Kongsi Gallery.
Yunita Rebekah develops the textural exploration and simultaneous deconstruction of the self-portrait. Through vigorous, painterly gestures, she effaces the silhouette on the canvas, a spontaneous action she likens to the absent, or hollow condition of individuals in contemporary society in their struggle to maintain “presence”.
