Faris Heizer

Faris Heizer (b. 1998) is an artist who lives and works in Singapore. Working within the tradition of figurative painting, his works are based on personal observations of contemporary society and its structural workings revolving around capitalism. In particular, Heizer gives form to the behavioural and performative aspects of social relations that arise from such topics. His artistic inquiries often feature the white-collar worker in a range of imagined realities charged with intimacy, tension, and bewilderment.

Beginning with a thinly primed canvas, Heizer stains its surface with acrylic inks to create varied layered undertones. Such intuitive process naturally informs and guides his figurative elements toward the composition of his paintings. Heizer’s painterly sensibilities then manifest into bold, gestural brushstrokes that both define and envelop his figures, contextualising them within arresting scenes of narrative.

Graduated from NAFA with a Diploma in Fine Arts in 2018, Faris has had a successful solo show at Cuturi Gallery and have since participated in several group exhibitions including Tang Contemporary in Beijing, Galerie LJ in Paris, At The Table Group Show hosted by Christie’s and Harpers Gallery in New York. Faris has also showcased his works at Kristin Hjellegjerde Gallery in Schloss Görne, Germany and ASIA NOW – a Paris Asian Art Fair and he recently exhibited with Kohn Gallery at EXPO CHICAGO 2023.

Cuturi Gallery is proud to present LAH! Stories from the Neighbourhood, a
transnational group exhibition held in collaboration with Artsphere Gallery (Jakarta). Curated by esteemed art historian and curator Farah Wardani, the exhibition brings together eight contemporary artists, all nder 40 years of age, from neighbouring countries—Singapore and Indonesia, exploring how geography, identity, and shared generational anxieties shape artistic practices across national boundaries.

Featuring Indonesian artists Dian Suci, Prabu Perdana, Ruth Marbun and Iqi Qoror from Artsphere Gallery, alongside Singaporean artists Aisha Rosli, Casey Tan, Faris Heizer and Shen Jiaqi from Cuturi Gallery, these artists present deeply personal reflections on urban life, social conditions, and generational concerns, through diverse approaches to figuration and abstraction.
