Biography

Adam Parker Smith is a New York-based artist born in 1978. He is famed for his satiric sculptures depicting whimsical subjects such as humanoid cacti and swimming pool floats. Smith’s three-dimensional creations may appear playful. However, they are imbued with darker messaging and touch on socio-political issues such as environmental pollution and global warming.

Smith works largely with ‘faux’ materials and he creates highly composed, brightly coloured sculptures and wall pieces which flirt with the surreal. He tends to create objects that often appears inflated and dispensable.

Adam Parker Smith has an MFA in painting and attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. In 2015, Smith received the New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship in Painting. His works has been exhibited across US and internationally. Reviews of his works has appeared in publications such as Art in America, The New York Times, Paper Magazine, Forbes and more. Smith works and lives in Brooklyn.
