Julian Mayor British, b. 1976
Julian Mayor is a british based artist. After graduating from the Royal College of Art in 2000 with a MA in Design Products, Mayor kicked-off his design career as a product and interior designer for IDEO design consultancy.
His art takes inspiration in strides from mathematics and nature, and his designs allude to his expertise in high-tech design processes while simultaneously showing his craft-based techniques. We see triangulation and geometry ever-present in his works. With this distinct computer-generated style paired with his organic approach of creating each piece by hand, he then creates unique pieces.
His works have been exhibited in Milan, Switzerland, New York, Tokyo, and Los Angeles. Most notably, his works were shown in the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD), New York, and shown in an installation with Naoto Fukasawa at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York. He also has a permanent series of sculptural benches installed in the park behind the Tate Britain in Pimlico, London.
